Infrastructure construction and industrial capacity cooperation will become new growth point in trade and investment cooperation between China and the Central and Eastern European countries, the Ministry of Commerce said.

Chinese enterprises' investment in the Central and Eastern Europe has exceeded $8 billion, mainly in machinery, chemical engineering, telecommunications, household appliances, new energy, logistics, research and development, finance and agriculture, according to the ministry. China has signed Belt and Road cooperation documents with 13 out of 16 countries in the region.

The annual trade volume between China and the 16 countries has risen from $43.9 billion in 2010 to $58.7 billion in 2016.

The 16 countries' total investment in China amounts to $1.2 billion, in the fields of machine manufacturing, automobile parts, chemical engineering, finance and environmental protection.

The bridge, power plant, flood control facilities, highways, power transmission and transformation facilities that the Chinese enterprises built in Central and Eastern Europe shows that the infrastructure construction is key to bilateral trade and economic cooperation.

The ministry said China has strength in capital, technology and management in infrastructure construction, and the two sides have huge potential in infrastructure construction cooperation, which can prompt the two sides to upgrade their industries.
